Making the choice to live longer

Good health and a long life are not not completely a matter of choice.
There are some people that are simply born with genetics that almost guarantees them a long and healthy life.
There are slightly more males born than females, but a males ranking thins more rapidly with age. If you had been born around 1900, your chances of living to one hundred were one in 2,500 if you were female and one in 5,000 if you were male.
Children born today have a much greater chance of making it to one hundred: one in 50 for females and one in 200 for male. Remember, good health and living a long life is also strongly influenced by the choices we make.
You can, choose to live a longer and healthier life. It is sensible to focus on those things you can do to increase your health and longevity.
Humans can add an average of about 8 years to their life by not smoking.
Eating right and keeping the extra pounds off reduces your risk of an early death. Regular exercise will also contribute to living a longer, healthier life.
Drinking the equivalent of two glasses of wine a day can increase your longevity, but drinking can significantly shorten the lives of those who abuse alcohol.
You can increase your chances for a long and healthy life by making healthy lifestyle choices. If you think that you cannot affect how long you live, consider these facts: Males who smokes forty or more cigarettes everyday will lose eight years of life. Death in an accident is seventeen times more likely on a motorcycle than in a car. About 90 percent of premature deaths can be attributed to any of these factors: smoking cigarettes, overeating, misusing alcohol, failing to control high blood pressure, no exercise, or not wearing seat belts.
